Wells are often drilled deep into the ground to tap into huge reservoirs of oil under the surface. The oil is refined for use in many products. These pumps may be the only piece of the process that you ever see in the open. Pipelines are often under the ground. Refineries are huge structures. The second image shows a working derrick that pumps the oil from the ground.
