Notes:
Freshwater lakes sometimes occur at the top of mountain ranges. The lake basins are filled as the snow melts. Many mountain lakes have become resort areas in both the summer and winter months. They are usually surrounded by evergreen conifers and plant species that can withstand the high altitudes and frozen winters.
