FOLDING

Example Type:
Earth Structure

Information:
Location: Hillside
Record Date: 04.10
Season: Spring
Elevation: 250 Feet

Notes:
In the photo you can see how the levels of stratification occur in waves. These layers were once flat or straight. Over time ,with the forces of the Earth pushing and pulling on the surface, the layers of rock began to twist and fold. The area could have pulled apart and broken, but it was malleable (soft) enough to adjust. The results are in the cutaway of the hill.
Evidence of folding action in stratification
