Notes:
An ecotone is the border area between one biome and another. Sometimes you might see a meadow up against a forest. That border is another example of an ecotone. This photo shows the border between a brush desert and adjacent set of hills. As soon as the hills appear both the terrain and plant species change. It is a new biome that supports different types of life. The plant life may be different because flooding occurs in the brush desert. That flooding would wash away any seeds that might take root in the hillside.
