BEACH DRAINAGE

Example Type:
Natural Occurrence

Information:
Location: Sandy Beach
Record Date: 02.19
Season: Winter
Elevation: Sea Level

Notes:
When you visit the beach it is not as solid as you may think. There is actually a huge amount of water a few feet under the surface. When low tide comes, this water wants to drain back into the ocean. This photo shows a low tide occurence where the water drains through the sand, returns to the ocean and takes sand with it. The drainage creates a tiny gorge that reveals the different sizes of material that make up the beach.
