Wyoming - Coniferous Forest and Prairie

Wyoming

This image from the state of Wyoming shows a mixture of different biomes. There are several areas of grasslands. We can't tell you if those grassland/prairie environments were created by removing surrounding trees. Prairie biomes can occur naturally in patches of forests, even very dense forests. The other biomes are the coniferous forest areas. Not extremely large in this example, they are areas that will stay green year-round, even during the cold and snowy Wyoming winters.

If you went back to this spot in the middle of winter, you would probably find an entirely white scene with patches of dark green trees popping out of the snow. Even during harsh winters, these environments are home of a number of creatures. They all share the ability to survive through bright, warm productive summers and long, cold winters. Water is generally easy to find, but shelter will always be valuable for larger animals. While small animals might live underground in the prairies, larger animals would need to find shelter in the less available tree areas.
