Oregon - Rosky Intertidal Coastline
The Oregon coastline is beautiful above and below the surface of the water. This intertidal region is home to thousands of species that are specifically adapted to the movements of the tide. What makes tides special? It forces organisms to live a portion of the day out of the water and the other part below the surface or in the difficult time when waves are crashing against the area. The crashing wave action slowly erodes the coastline leaving sea stacks such as the one you see here near Boardman Beach. Below the surface, there are mollusks and cnidarians anchored to the rocks surviving the rough days in heavy surf and tides. High tides bring fish while low tides see the arrival of birds to feed off many possible food sources.
